“Refuse to worry about tomorrow, but deal with each challenge that comes your way, one day at a time. Tomorrow will take care of itself.” Matthew 6:34 (TPT)
This scripture has become an anchor for my soul during what I call “white-water” seasons—those uncharted, turbulent times in life when the current feels strong, and the way forward isn’t always clear.
I think of it this way: if you’ve ever taken young children bowling, you’ve probably used bumpers. The bumpers don’t aim the ball for them, but they do keep it moving toward the pins instead of veering off course.
When Jesus invites us to stay within our day, those 24 hours become our boundaries—our bumpers. Focusing only on the hours ahead keeps me moving forward and, just as importantly, in the right direction.
It helps me focus on the tasks of the day—whether that’s showing up fully at work, preparing a meal after a long day, returning a difficult phone call, or tackling a project I finally have time to complete. It also allows me to move through the day at a pace that brings me and those around me peace. Fear and frustration have no place to land or take root.
When I stay within my 24 hours, I begin to recognize the gifts placed right before me. I can hear the encouragement and comfort of the Spirit as He leads me, moment by moment, through the day.
Jesus, thank You for meeting us today. Help us release the weight of tomorrow and remain within the grace You’ve given for these 24 hours. Quiet our anxious thoughts, steady our hearts, and guide our steps as we carry out the tasks set before us. Teach us to recognize Your presence in ordinary moments and to trust that You are faithfully at work—one day at a time. Amen.
