I Am the Bread of Life (Part 1 of 7)

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35)

We all know what it’s like to be hungry.

Sometimes it’s physical hunger. Other times it’s a hunger no meal can satisfy. We hunger for peace, purpose, acceptance, hope, or simply the assurance that everything is going to be okay.

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible tells a continuous story of how God meets that hunger.

When the Israelites wandered through the wilderness with no food, God faithfully provided manna from heaven every morning. With each day’s provision, He was sending a message: I am enough. You can trust Me.

Centuries later, Jesus was born in Bethlehem—a name that means “House of Bread.” That wasn’t a coincidence. God was preparing the world for something far greater than manna.

Then came the miracle of feeding more than five thousand people with five loaves and two fish. Jesus satisfied their physical hunger that day, but He knew they needed something more.

He wanted to give them something far greater—Himself.

He declared,

“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35)

Jesus wasn’t talking about physical bread. He was revealing that every longing of the human heart ultimately points to Him.

We often look for satisfaction in success, relationships, possessions, or accomplishments. Yet even after we achieve what we’ve been chasing, something still feels incomplete.

Only Jesus can satisfy the deepest hunger of the soul.

The same God who provided manna in the wilderness now offers Himself as the Bread of Life. He doesn’t simply give us what we need—He gives us Himself.

And He is enough.

Reflection: Where have you been looking for satisfaction lately? What would it look like to trust Jesus to fill the deepest hunger of your heart today?

Remember this. Jesus is the Bread of Life. Therefore, I can stop chasing after what will never satisfy me.

The more we know who Jesus is, the more confidently we’ll follow Him.

I’ll see you next week as we explore another “I AM” statement.
