The God Who Bursts Through

Recently, I found myself struggling to find peace—and, if I’m honest, even a good attitude—as I faced a situation I didn’t choose. In that tension, the Lord reminded me of a name of God I had once come across but never truly noticed: Baal-Perazim.

Throughout Scripture, the names of God reveal His character. Baal-Perazim means “The God Who Bursts Through” or “The God of Breakthrough.”

When I remembered this name, my soul was filled with comfort and peace. I was reminded that God is not distant or passive—He is active, powerful, and present.

The story of Baal-Perazim appears in 1 Chronicles 14:11 and 2 Samuel 5:17–20. God had just established David as king over Israel, yet he soon found himself facing the Philistines again—enemies he had confronted years earlier when he stood before Goliath.

As David cried out to the Lord, God moved on his behalf.

Scripture records David’s words: “The Lord did it! He burst through my enemies like a raging flood!”

David named that place Baal-Perazim, recognizing that the victory came not from his strength or strategy, but from God alone.

This story stirred my heart and reminded me that David did not face his battles alone—and neither do we. God was not disinterested in David’s situation, and He is not disinterested in ours. His timing was good then, and it remains good now.

One detail stands out to me: God instructed David not to move until he heard and saw God moving first. David waited, watched, and when God moved, he followed—and the battle was won.

This reminds me that my role is not to force outcomes, but to partner with Jesus and allow His Kingdom to come through my obedience. When God moves ahead of me, I am invited to step into the rhythm of His leadership. The outcome belongs to Him.

So I ask you: Where do you need God to burst through like a raging flood? I encourage you to read David’s story and let it renew your hope in the God who still breaks through.
